The Daily Maid is a family run business and as such we always look to support new ventures from within. Owner of The Daily Maid Jan Birss and her daughter Sarah Birss are going trekking in Jordan in October 2010, in aid of Claire House. They have both been busy organising a number of events to raise the £3000 in funds that they need to book their place on the ‘journey of a lifetime’. they have completed bag packing at local supermarkets, and have savoured the delights of car washing at Upton Fire Station two weeks ago with the help of the hard-working fire response team there. A hard task for the girls, but someone had to do it. Claire House is a 10 bedded hospice for children with life limiting, life threatening conditions from across Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. Located in Bebington on the Wirral, Claire House is a bright, vibrant place of hope. In addition to caring for our children and young adults, we also focus on the needs of the whole family, providing bereavement and other support for as long as it is needed. With no guaranteed government funding we need to raise in excess of £2.5 million each year to maintain our present levels of service. Our specialist nursing team also work in the community through our ‘Hospice to Home’ programme which offers paediatric palliative care in the family home. With a hospice to home service also operating from our Liverpool office we are now reaching more families than in previous years and hope to see this grow in other areas too.
